Schools, camps, and raising kids on the prairies

Practical starting points for Taiwanese families settling in Saskatchewan — enrolling children in school, finding summer camps, and connecting with other families. Details vary by city and change often, so please confirm with the official source before you rely on them.

Saskatoon School Type Selection Guide

There are mainly four types of schools here: Public Schools, Catholic Schools, Community Schools, and in some areas, French Immersion / All-French Schools. Community Schools are typically attended by families with greater financial needs. These schools provide free breakfast and lunch. However, due to the student demographics, they tend to have a higher proportion of students with behavioral issues. It is generally recommended to avoid them if possible.

Schools & Transportation in Saskatoon

Schools in Saskatoon do not have a strict catchment area system. After you arrive, you can contact the schools by phone or email. Before deciding on a school, it is highly recommended to visit the campus with your child to see the environment and get a better understanding of the school. Overall, transportation in Saskatoon is quite good compared to many other cities. Most places within the city can be reached by car in about 15 to 20 minutes. Traffic may get slightly heavier in summer due to road construction. However, public transportation is not very convenient here, so having your own car makes life much easier.
