Getting a Library Card

One of the things you’re going to need if you’re going to settle down is to get a library card. There are two types of library cards: a standard card and a short-term card. A standard card is for residents, and a short-term card is for people new to Regina, or people who just moved. There is also special cards for children, teachers and those with a disability. You’ll fill out a form, and they will tell you which card you are eligible for, so don’t worry about that. You need a library card for basically anything except drop-in events and programs.
Getting a library card is actually super easy, but you need to be 18 or older, or you will have to have a parent or guardian sign it. To get a card, you just need to know your address, your e-mail, your name, your birthday, and your library card’s password. They will also ask for your library branch if you’re registering online, but if you go to a physical desk, you can just tell them the one you are at. There are multiple options of cards that you can choose from, and every so often, they add new options to mix things up a little.

So what can you borrow from Regina Public Libraries? A lot of things, as it turns out! Obviously you can borrow books, but what else? Well, you can borrow video games, book club bags, passes (such as for the Science Centre and Western Development Museums), art , bike locks, bike repair kits, toys, radon kits, rpg kits, birding kits, seeds, language kits and more! You can view the whole list in the link below. There are also many free events you can attend for various ages and genres. With the events ranging from mah-jongg and video game competitions to English classes and author meetings to knitting classes.
All in all, the library is an awesome place to learn new things and a great place to socialize or read. Hopefully, after reading this, you will decide to (If not already) go to a library near you!
