Winter Tips

Winter Apparel & Footwear Layer strategically: Dress in multiple layers, including a good windbreaker. When choosing a winter coat, opt for a long parka that covers your backside rather than a waist-length jacket to block out drafts. Wear proper footwear: Choose winter boots with deep treads for solid traction. It is also highly recommended to get attachable ice cleats (spikes) for extra grip on icy surfaces. Bundle up: Always wear essential winter accessories, particularly a warm toque and a scarf, to protect exposed skin from frostbite.
Winter Driving Safety Use dedicated winter tires: Winter tires provide significantly better handling and safety than all-season tires, which wear down and lose effectiveness quickly in extreme cold. Adjust your driving habits: Avoid sudden, hard braking; instead, gently tap or pump your brakes to prevent sliding. Always maintain a much longer following distance than you would in summer conditions. Keep your gas tank half full: Never let your fuel level drop below half a tank. If you get stranded or slide into a ditch, you will need that extra fuel to keep the engine running and the heater on while waiting for help.
