Federal Funding for Early Learning and Child Care

By Anonymous · 2026-08-27

The Canada-Saskatchewan Canada-Wide Early Learning and Child Care Agreement is a joint funding initiative designed to make high-quality, regulated child care affordable and accessible. Recently, in late 2025, the federal and provincial governments signed a five-year extension to this agreement (effective April 1, 2026, to March 2031), backed by $1.6 billion in federal funding to sustain and grow the province's child care system. The $10-a-Day Program Through this funding, Saskatchewan successfully achieved its core affordability goal in April 2023: reducing out-of-pocket parent fees for children under six in regulated child care to an average of $10 a day (or $217.50 per month for full-time care). The government directly subsidizes the child care operators to make up the difference in operating costs.
